♥♥♥ I agree with this definition…It is very good that we have this HRM or Personnel Management which part of the industry for us to have someone that will guide us or assist us on work, if someday we were going to be an employee.

The Human Resources Management (HRM) function includes a variety of activities, and key among them is deciding what staffing needs you have and whether to use independent contractors or hire employees to fill these needs, recruiting and training the best employees, ensuring they are high performers, dealing with performance issues, and ensuring your personnel and management practices conform to various regulations.

♥♥♥ It just states that HRM have the functions that will ensure to have a good employees and will meet the needs of the staff. And for me, to have a good relationship between the employees must be also considered.

Personnel management is concerned with the effective use of the skills of people. They may be salespeople in a store, clerks in an office, operators in a factory, or technicians in a research laboratory. In a business, personnel management starts with the recruiting and hiring of qualified people and continues with directing and encouraging their growth as they encounter problems and tensions that arise in working toward established goals.

♥♥♥I agree with it because it is really better if we have the employees who are qualified and very suited on the job that they were worked on, for them to meet the goal of the company to be a well-established and an effective company for the employees as well as for the customers.

Human resource management is a balancing act. At one extreme, you hire only qualified people who are well suited to the firm's needs. At the other extreme, you train and develop employees to meet the firm's needs. Most expanding small businesses fall between the two extremes i.e., they hire the best people they can find and afford, and they also recognize the need to train and develop both current and new employees as the firm grows.

♥♥♥ It is just like to that of HRM, it will hire very qualified people for certain job and develop them to meet the needs of the people.

♥♥♥Yes I agree, HRM have largely difference in a description processes to that of Personnel Management. And it specifically matters in their limitations on managing the employees.

At first impression, HRM and Personnel Management are just same or have in common but if you just know each limitation that was the time that you can actually differentiate them. As what I have knew from our adopted company, Personnel Management has only limited on hiring, recruitment and preparation of documents and appointments. But in Human Resource Management, it also includes the training, planning and management, selection and transaction, and benefits and welfare for the employees.

♥♥♥ Interviewing HR Personnel ♥♥♥

Last Wednesday, September 24, me and my group mates had interviewed one of the personnel in the HR department of City Hall and She is Mrs. Florita L. Oligario, their HRMO3 (human resource management officer 3). And we’re so glad that they still allowed us to have an interview even though we didn’t have any letter for approval. And with that, we have a good interview with her. We interviewed about her concept on the nature, scope and the role of HR. And we have gained much information from her.

According to her, actually before, their HR was only called as the Personnel Management and it has only limited to hiring, recruitment and preparation of documents and appointments. But now, it was evolved and became the HRM and development because they firmly believed that the men of HR can be developed and their functions can be expanded. That's why, they are not now only limited on recruitment but they are now limited on the personnel benefits and welfare, personnel selection and transaction, personnel planning and management, and human resource development which provide career function to employees for competency enhancement.

Likewise, the good thing to them is that they have good benefits and incentives that are given for the employees for their exemplary achievement in the company. Like for example the travel package with a P300/employee and the salo-salo package with a P100/employee for them to unwine the employees from the stressful works that they have. And also when an employee meets the highest performance rate of the company every six months or in the 2 succeeding semester, they are given an incentive that has an amount of P2000. But if an employee failed his work within 6 months, he is possible to be dropped from the rules or in the other term, he is fired.

In addition, according from Maam Florita in their recruitment she emphasized that "it’s not whom you know but how you possess your ability in work" which is very good for me, because its just shows that they are fair in hiring an employee and not just because they relatives or friends. Moreover, I had also asked her if her expectations of the company was met when she was already working there because I am just curious about it and she answered, "Yes, its more than enough of my expectations. I am developed and the job was fulfilling even though it is stressful and I've worked beyond office hours". And also she said that, though other people saying that the employees of City Hall are not good, for her she is proudly saying that "We are excellent!" because people don't know what's true behind their work, and how difficult but important it is. They really motivate their employees and orient them on how to deal good with their clients. In short, their role is taking good care of the needs of the employees as well as the needs of the clients.

Therefore, for me, I am really admired them as well as their work because I know, working in the HR department was so difficult and complicated but they still cope this thing. And I also agree with her concepts that she have about their HR because it can also be seen to them like on how they treat and entertain us as their clients. In a nutshell, they are very good and very excellent as what she said.

Journal #9:♥♥♥ Gantt Chart Making ♥♥♥

For about 2 days, we’ve made our Gantt chart. Specifically, we started it on the afternoon ‘til 10pm of Sept. 3 and we finalized it on the afternoon of Sept. 4.You know, making a gantt chart was easy but the difficult there was creating a tasks and of course, adjusting the dates for our tasks that we will gonna do to fit on the given deadline. After that, we passed it already.

And on Sept. 5, our gantt chart was checked and approved by Sir Gamboa, so we posted it already to the faculty.

that's all....Thanks God, we’ve finally done it!

Journal #8: ♥♥♥ Forum at Sanggunian ♥♥♥

That day, we attended the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) HR and Recruitment forum at the Sanggunian Panlungsod in front of San Pedro Church. That forum was just like an orientation in every call center but I have learned so much from it. For me, it is so good because it’s very informative and interesting. Actually, we are just few who attended there, and I think we are only the one who knew about that, that’s why.

Furthermore, the one that amazed me there was when the time we have our speaker who is a visually impaired. Actually, at first I was thought that he could see us because it’s not obvious that he is like that and I only realized it when Mrs. Wit told us about him. So amazing talaga! specially when I knew that he was already a graduate of medical transcription ‘coz I knew how difficult to be a transcriptionist is, but he could actually can do it in spite of his situation. He is really an inspiration specially to those differently-abled person.

After him, there’s another speakers who oriented us. They are Ms. Karol Dayo from E-telecare and Ms. Laurence from SUREcruit and they are so good especially in speaking English, no wonder they’re from a call center. hehe… the best jud sila, so nosebleed, halos mapanganga ako habang nakikinig sa kanila!haha…

The things that I’ve learned from them for during a job interviews, are:
1. Make a handshake with the interviewer before and after the interview.
2. Be confident.
3. Don’t forget to greet them.
4. When they ask about yourself, just make a summary on the information that you have wrote on the resume.
5. Make sure that you will tell your skills that are connected to what was your applying for.
6. And have an eye to eye contact.

And for the call center:
1. You must be master on the keyboard.
2. You must have a perseverance and patience.
3. You must be alert.
4. There is no age limit.
5. In E-telecare, they don’t hire part-time students; if possible it should be a graduate.
6. And of course, should have good skills in communication.

In addition, Ms. Karol gave us also a tip on how to develop in speaking in English such as:
1. Practice speaking English.
2. Read usually english books like pocketbooks or any informative books.
3. Watch usually english movies, shows or could be cartoons (kaya forget mo na muna daw yung panonood ng mga teleserye.hehe…)

After that seminar, we went to the booths that they have in Sanggunian and we’ve tried in the simulation that given by the MTC academy and I have proved that it’s so hard talaga maging transcriptionist, grabeh nakakalito! But we have enjoyed on it.

Thanks for that experienced hehe….and thanks to the good speakers and lastly but not the least, thanks to Sir Gamboa for bringing us there.

Journal #7: ♥♥♥ Our Acquaintance! ♥♥♥

On August 4…

That was the night that we have our acquaintance party. The events are the Mr. and Ms. Fashionista, the Musical contest & etc. Likewise, the only thing that brought us to enjoy the party was that because of our 2 hosts, Mike Nochefranca and Hannacris Camillo who are so good and entertaining.

Journal #6:♥♥♥Learnings and Evaluations on HRM♥♥♥

At first, I have no idea what is all about in HRM, I am confused on what we are gonna do in the real industry like what our Sir keep on saying and what we are gonna learned from it. But now, it is clear to me and I am thankful to have like that way of learning. By bringing us into the real industry, we have learned more, than just having a class discussion in our school.

One thing that I have realized while looking for an adopted company is that it is not easy but rather it is so difficult to have. It is just like you’re an employee whose looking for a job and will naturally encountered to be accepted or the hard thing is to be rejected. Yes, on our part, we had also experienced to be rejected but in a good manner unlike to the other group who shared to us that they are not just rejected but also have insulted and they really disappointed about it and angry. And I felt with them though we’re not companion because it’s not right to treat them like that. And because I have experienced also how hard this activity is. But in a lighter side, I have also realized that because of this activity, I have gained more bonding time with my constituents right now which before we didn’t used to do. And because of that, now we were not just classmates at all but we were already close friends.

And for this subject, I can only say that it is difficult but fun, so interesting but complicated, but the important is I have learned many things especially in industry because of this. It is also good and I’m happy because through this subject, I can now experience blogging and I have now already my personal blog which I was curious before of what it is. And it’s the same to our web forum for our assignments or any updates which I didn’t used to do before.

And for our professor, Mr. Randy Gamboa, I just want to thank him though pinahihirapan niya kami…hehe and until now, hindi pa tapos but instead it’s the start again but by this time it’s for our major paper...huhu, I know it’s for our own sake naman..peace sir! I just hope we can make it… Actually, my first impression to him was so nakakatakot because of what I have heard from the higher years about him. But now I have realized that ok naman pala siya, he has a sense of humor, he is approachable and the good thing is, he is really a God-fearing. Mahirap lang talaga siyang magbigay ng mga projects at assignments. Super ka talaga sir sa lahat ng bagay, as what you are saying… hehe…☺

Journal #5: ♥♥♥ This is the moment…this is it! ♥♥♥

August 2 was the day that we have already presented our assigned topic to the class. Honestly, I have felt anxious at that time, and it’s natural to me every time I used to report in front of the class into the extent that sometimes I can’t perform it well. But thanks to GOD in the end I have cope it up. I had explained to them what should I explain and I had also connected it to our adopted company for them to understand well too. On the other hand, in the middle of the class, we have our break to have some snacks that prepared by our classmates that are sanctioned because of the committed late or absent during our last classes…hehe actually I am one of them, but just because I have been late for once, that’s all..hehe… not bad!

Actually, that day was also our last meeting of the class in HRM, that’s why we held it on Saturday. But our assignments and of course, our major paper is still on going through web forum, blogging and consultation with Sir Gamboa.

Journal #4: ♥♥♥ Interviewing Portion…char! ♥♥♥

On July 15…

We were so nosebleed that day….hehe because that day, we had our interview to the secretary of the HRD of JIB call center. From the word call center, it’s all about English speaking. But fortunately, the secretary was not strict because she allowed us to speak in visayan or tagalog language as well, so it’s not difficult to us to interview her. And at the middle of our interview, their HR Director came, so we finished our interview with her. But unfortunately, some of our questions to her were not answered because there are some that she didn’t know about it and only their IT specialist knows. In short, we’re not satisfied about the information that we have gained from them. That’s why we have decided to go to our next choice which is in the City hall.

On July 23…

That is the day that we conducted our interview in the HR of City hall. For me, we are so lucky because we had interviewed their IT specialist mismo! Which really fit to what was our topic all about, “The Creating of HRIS” in which only IT would do it. By the way, he is Mr. Bobet Dacilla, and we have learned a lot from him. From the importance of HRIS to the processes of how they

did it, and so on & so forth…

Thanks to them for allowing us to interview…and thanks to GOD that we made it.

Journal #3:♥♥♥ Presentation of Authorization Letter ♥♥♥

On June 27…
We have finalized our letter that day through signed by our instructor, our dean and our OSS director.

On June 30…
We presented our letter to the JIB call center and they told us to just wait for their call.

On July 1…
We have also presented our letter to City hall and directly, they approved it. At the same day, we also gave the letter to EMCOR but there’s no response at all.

Journal #2: ♥♥♥ Walked for a mile... ♥♥♥

On June 26…

That day was so tiring but fun. That was the time that we’re looking for a company that will allow us to conduct a study to their HR and my companions are Jeanette and Kathy. In this activity, we’ve experienced many things, we’ve walked for a mile, we’ve been gone so many places, we’ve made our faces thicker and we’ve made our feet so tired, buti nalang we’re wearing a flat shoes. It’s started from USEP to Victoria, then to SITEL call center, to the company beside Landco (sorry but I forgot the name!), and then to the banks in front of CONPINCO, down to the Fairlanes then to the JIB call center, back to the central bank, then to JS Gaisano mall, and walk again to San Pedro St. which we have many companies that we’ve been through, and then to the park in front of San Pedro Church to have some rest.

And we didn’t end up to that. Oh my God! To do effort nato!...and while we are on our way, we we’re just keep on saying that, “kaya natin to, go go go…AJA!” hehe (that was the strong spirit of our group, just like no retreat no surrender, char!).

Back on our way, we go next to the Claveria St. ‘til Ateneo, nagbabasakali lang na mayron pang makitang pwede. hehe…And all of that was just looking for a company to have study for.”Grabeh noh!” And after that, when I went home, I just changed my clothes and already go to bed because of tiredness, and never mind if I’m hungry or not, just wanna take a sleep. And also from all of that, only 2 companies/organizations approved us and these are the JIB call center and the City hall. By the way, about the City hall, my other constituents, Venus and Ilyn who are the one who approached their HRD to allow us to conduct a study.

Thanks to God because we’ve finally did it!

Journal #1: ♥♥♥ Oh a Letter! ♥♥♥

On June 23…

That day, we supposedly went to our English teacher, Mr. Mendoza to consult our authorization letter but unfortunately he’s not around because he was already transferred to the other school, so we preferred to another teacher whose Mrs. Bacquial though we’re not been under on her ever since. We chose her because of what they said about her that she’s really a good english teacher. In connection with, by that time we are so shy at nag- aalangan kasi hindi niya kami kilala. And also my constituents had a doubt if she’s really the teacher we mean because of her physical change cause by her pregnancy at that time. But still we go on, and approached her to consult our letter. And she told us, “Mga baga jud mo ug nawong noh, hindi ko kayo kilala!” but in a joke way, though it’s true…hehehe it’s ok and we know it. The important is we have now our letter. And in the end, she’d worked it still.

***It is good to know about that, at least those youth that are out of school would still have earned money with their own effort that have exerted. And for the people in disaster-stricken areas, it is really good to have them the cash-for-work program because by that way, it can still give a hopes for the families that are living there.***



With the difficult situation that our president facing right now, though I am not pro-GMA there is a part of me that I can say that I'm proud of her because of her being strong and because she stands still inspite of the critics that are thrown to her. And I agree with her saying that, "Leadership is not about doing the first easy thing that comes to mind; it is about doing what is necessary, however hard."....and that is the attitude of being a leader.

And I also agree to what Pres. Arroyo said that, "To meet the challenges of tomorrow, we must become more self-reliant, self-sufficient and independent, relying on ourselves more than on the world."

That our success will always be depends on each one of us...

hUman bEing...

“Human beings are the most important, potent and critical, resource of any organization and yet the least understood and the worst managed of its resources.”

In my own perceptions, we, as a human being have a highly developed brain, capable of abstract reasoning, language and emotion. It means we are gifted on knowledge, talents and skills to do everything. And we are created by God for the purpose of our very important role which is to manage and take care of everything that he also created here on earth. In short, we are born to be as a manager… that’s why we are the very important species among all.

In like manner, the same as to any organizations, we as a human are important and potent because we are one of a kind. We are the only one who has the power to build, manipulate, and develop anything or everything especially in the company in terms of its success and failures and especially on any technologies that we have. We are critical especially on the hiring and firing process. And of course, we are resource of any organization because of our quick-wittedness in mastering a difficult situation.

On the other hand, we as human being are also define as least understood and worst manage because of our uniqueness as an individuals and differences especially in skills, personalities, beliefs and characteristics that we must tend to consider, understand, sympathize or appreciate in order for us to have a good communications and good relationships with other people, our constituents, colleagues or co-workers. But in some instances, because of those differences, others may not understand it. Because they have a hard time to adjust with it and as well as, they come to the point that they use to discriminate and treat other people not so well or unfairly. And it is not only usually seen on the employees but also onto the customers.

In this highly competitive world of today, the one thing that separates the great companies from the mediocre ones is customer satisfaction and loyalty. However, customer satisfaction isn't always about pleasing the customers. Sometimes, it's about pleasing the people you put on the front line - your employees. The employees are the day-to-day representatives of any firm, and if they do not share the goals and visions of the company they work for, it shows to the customers.

It's a simple corporate philosophy to follow - if you treat your workers well, your workers will feel better about their company and will represent the company favorably, which eventually leads to the customers being treated better.

So therefore, workers who are treated nicely will respond to their company's attitudes by treating their customers well. Hence, in return, the company will have the loyalty and satisfaction of the very customers they were trying to attract in the first place.

Why HRM included in BSIT/BSCS curriculum?

Human Resource Management is a management strategy emphasizing the individual employee as against collective relations between management and labor. It's aim is to promote cooperative relations between management and employees and to avoid the often adversarial behavior associated with industrial relations. Where HRM is successful, the employees will be committed to the long-term future of their organization and this ,in turn, will help the organization adapt to competitive pressures.

For me, HRM is included in the curriculum of BSIT/BSCS, it's because for us to know what it is all about and all the things that they do in human resource. Because I know someday we will gonna work with it even though they said that mostly of its employees are should be a psychologists or an accountants. But we are all know that today's any corporate world human resource now enjoys on the more effective and efficient new technologies that are now introduced on a regular basis of HR to make things simpler and more modernized. And this is the (HRIS) Human Resource Information System that's why we as an IT professionals are now excel in HR because we are the one will work on with that, esp. in terms of the applications in software like data base system.

By the way, Human Resource Information System is an integrated system that designed to help provide information used in HR decision making such as administration, payroll, recruiting, training and performance analysis.

On the other hand, as what Sir Gamboa said, we as an IT professionals are the endangered but the rare professionals. It's peculiar but it's true and amazing instead.hehe...! .... We are the one can make the company more develop in streamlining of the business process that's why we have the important role in HR.

I just hope someday I will be a part of it and work with the successful company...
It's not bad to dream big, so Dream Big Kapamilya! hehe.....

The 21st Century Corporations

21st Century has already started since Jan. 1, 2001 and will end up till Dec. 31, 2100. So it means we are now already in the 21st century... And as I have observed, our country is keep on modernizing, I mean more and more high-technologies are keep on booming..And we are not already naive about it, and of course,as you will realize,it is already part of our lifestyle like the cell phones and computers particularly via internet that we used to it.



I know there are some people especially the old ones who didn't like it and saying that it is not good (hehe peace...!) but the thing is, we are now already in modernization time so we must use it coz I know we need it for this time and as well as in the future.



Furthermore, if we talk about the corporations in the 21st century, since we are now already part of it, I think the corporations now are really more competitive in the sense of because they are now about clever in application of the latest software and have learned to manage an elaborate network of external relationships. They use of management via the web, constructed on technological advantages, organized around networks, built on shifting partnerships and alliances and they are being part of globalization as well.



By the way, I will just point out the importance/use of internet or any technologies on any of the corporations:



* The net can have the ability to everyone to access a mind-boggling array of information
from anywhere even in the lowliest or highest position.

* Ideas can be zapped around the globe in just a blink of an eye.

* Leading-edge technology will enable workers on the bottom rungs of the organization to seize opportunity as it arises.

* Emerging technologies will allow employees and freelancers anywhere in the world
to converse in numerous languages online without the need for a translator.

* By using information via internet to manage themselves and better serve their customer,
companies will be able to do things cheaper, faster aid with far less waste.

* Every outpost will be seamlessly connected by the net so far-flung employees and freelancers
can work together in real time.



On the other hand, I know and I believe that in the near future there's many more newly invented technologies will arise because of the very intelligent and broad minded that people are, but I just hope in the end, people will not be as robot as it is that there's no feelings at all and they will not forget about GOD because he is really the means of all.

HR Downsizing

DOWNSIZING

*A downsizing strategy reduces the scale (size) and scope of a business to improve its financial performance.
*A reduction of the workforce is one of only several possible ways of improving profitability or reducing costs.

Call it layoffs, downsizing, early retirement or "corporate rightsizing." It's no secret that pressures to improve profit levels have turned massive workforce reductions into a way of life for many companies. But with this recent trend has come concern and a demand for higher levels of assistance to discharged workers. Companies have explored many different downsizing options, but one pharmaceutical firm has unique solution to this often difficult situation that should be of interest to HR professionals caught in the corporate rightsizing struggle.*

And this company is the Warner-Lambert in which in 2000, Warner-Lambert merged with Pfizer, bringing together two of the fastest-growing companies in the pharmaceutical industry and adding to Pfizer's global strengths and rich heritage. Pfizer Incorporated is a major pharmaceutical company, which ranks number one in the world in sales. With Warner-Lambert, Pfizer gained product lines ranging from Parke-Davis branded pharmaceuticals to Listerine mouthwash to Schick and Wilkinson Sword wet-shave products.

*** Last year, as part of a worldwide restructuring effort, Warner Lambert's New Jersey corporate headquarters eliminated several secretarial and administrative assistant positions. The result was displaced employees whose skills were in high demand elsewhere throughout the immediate geographical area. Rather than losing these valuable workers to competitors or outside placement agencies, Warner-Lambert developed a program that meets the economic needs of both the organization and the displaced employees.

When the downsizing effort began in December 1991, the company established an in-house Temporary Secretarial Department (TSD). Similar to a temporary employment agency, secretaries and administrative assistants who had met acceptable performance standards registered with the TSD by filling out forms listing their various skills. As departmental managers had temporary job openings due to sickness or vacation leaves, they were required to fill the opening through the TSD. Management could only use an outside agency if an in-house temp was unavailable.

"It's really worked out well for everyone concerned," says Mary Gebhard, Corporate Human Resource Representative and head of the TSD at Warner-Lambert. "I match the appropriate person to each opening as it comes up, depending on the skills that are needed, We charge back each department using a temp at a much less expensive rate than they would get from an outside agency, which tacks on a service charge. And our colleagues are happy, since they are employed at the same salary that they were getting before the downsizing began, including full benefits."

Because of the TSD, displaced workers have been able to retain their income and receive training to learn a new skill or to enhance an old one, while still pursuing permanent employment either within the company or outside of it. Employees not out on temporary assignment are kept busy by a constant flow of word processing work.

"We've also offered all colleagues in the Temporary Secretarial Department an opportunity to bid on any full time job openings within the company as they are posted," explains Gebhard. "And if they would like to retrain or learn a new word processing package in order to make themselves more marketable, they have the opportunity to do that as well."

But Gebhard is quick to point out the psychological toll of the downsizing. "At first, the impression among some of the temps was that some people within the company may not give them a fair shot at a permanent opening here. But after a while, they realized that we were serious and we really valued their work."

To help counter any trauma caused by the downsizing, Warner Lambert set up an Employee Assistance Program support group for the displaced workers. "It's really helped them knowing that they could go and talk with others who were in the same position," says Gebhard. "The company also set up a secretarial savvy course that covered skills like networking and resume writing."

Over 50 employees have been in the TSD and to date only 14 remain, says Gebhard. All the others who sought a full time job within the corporation have been placed. Originally scheduled to end June 30, the program has been such a success that it was extended through the summer to give workers an extra three months to find an opportunity.

"It's really been a wonderful answer to what could have been a very sticky problem for our corporation," says Gebhard.

My evaluation

Among the five online jobs that are listed above,the one that i like best is the one that is a kind of different field from them which is the ONLINE ACCOUNT /DATA CLERK because honestly my really first choice in college is accountancy but due to some circumstances i didnt made it. It means I am a frustrated accountant..hehe! But except on that job, i would prefer to be an ONLINE GRAPHIC ARTIST/WEB DESIGNER because i would really love doing like that.And you know, its realy nice working on the job that you love to work on to.
