Our visits in Lane System

First in foremost, I looked for the companies that we proposed through the internet and luckily it was also approved by our professor. These companies are in the IT industry because that’s what the industry that we are studying for.

June 30 – We proposed 3 companies to our instructor for our module, the CubePixels Design Studio, Hubport Interactive Inc., and the Lane Systems Inc. But he only approved one company which is the Lane System. Lane System is an outsourcing company that offers services related to the IT environment of the certain corporations. After that, our Instructor, our Dean and our OSS Director also signed our approval letter.

July 1 – We gave our approval letter to the Lane System.

July 3 – The Lane System already approved our approval letter. Actually, it supposedly be rejected because of the reason that interviewing for them is really time consuming because they were so busy every now and then for their work. So, we have just agreed that instead of having an interview with them, we will just send the questionnaire on their email and they will send it back to us as long as they have already their answers.

July 19 – As what I have said, Lane Systems didn’t allow us to have an interview with them therefore we should only have to send a questionnaire to them. And that day, I’ve already sent our questionnaire through email to the Lane Systems regarding on their MIS that is related to what was assigned module to us.

July 22 – I’ve got already the answers on the email from the Lane System.

July 23 – I’ve sent another questionnaire to them for our additional questions regarding to their IT infrastructure because there were still lacking information on the first respond answer that we need to have in order to relate it on our report.

July 24 – I’ve got already the answers for the additional questions on the email from the Lane System.

IC Acquaintance 2009

On July 17, we had our acquaintance night at the Social hall, which started at 7:00pm until 10:00pm. We really ha
ve a lot of fun on that evening. In fact, we are entertained by the hosts so much because they were so good, so jolly and so funny in front of the stage especially the gay host. Moreover, the main event of the party was the Mr. and Ms. Fashionista, which composed of only the 1st and 2nd year contestants. And for me, t he winners are both deserving because they were both good looking and have a good in fashion.

End of the Module

These days are the last days of our class in MIS

July 25 – We have our make up class in MIS that day and we have presented already our assigned module, which is all about "The New IT Infrastructure". And while we are reporting about it, we also shared everything about our adopted company that related to it, which is the Lane System Inc.

July 28 – That day was our last meeting in MIS but that’s not end with that because we could still communicate our professor by having our consultations regarding on our project proposal and also by our web forum. That was also the day that the other reporters who have not yet reported their assigned topics during our make up class were already presented. In fact, I like their topics because it talks about outsourcing and open source.

In connection with the discussion we have that time, for me, if I were to choose between outsource and insource, I would rather prefer outsource because as I have read on the internet, companies of all sizes are now struggling with escalating costs of full-time employees. In addition, there are more things that you have to consider if you prefer insource like the hiring, training, administration, benefits, absenteeism, workspace and equipment for the employees which in the outsource not often considered.

On the other hand, with regard to the outsourcing company, the advantages of hiring them are the following:

1. Expertise: Harness the talent technology and expertise of niche providers and leverage best practices. Expert sources who might carry too large a price tag to employ full-time, can fit into nearly any budget on a project-by-project or as needed basis.

2. Management: Focus on the core aspects of your business and leave the worries of non-core activities to someone else without having to commit additional managers or your time to manage a project. Outsourcing companies have their own management.

3. Personnel Flexibility: Hire specialists without being obligated to keep them on when they are not needed. It is easier to terminate an outsourced relationship than to layoff full-time personnel.

4. Capital Conservation: Concentrate financial resources on core business activities vs. investing capital in overhead, such as: office space, computers, etc.

5. Time Savings: Don’t reinvent the wheel. Someone, somewhere has done it before or developed an easy solution – why not use it?

Furthermore, Outsourcing is no longer about cutting costs and saving money. It is about how to do things quicker, more efficiently, getting to the market faster than your competitors, maximizing workforce flexibility and gaining access to highly qualified employees. And Outsourcing is becoming one of the most significant business trends of this decade.

But on the other side, like the situation of USEP right now, I agree with their decision if they are using now the insource which was been outsource before because we have our IT professionals here on our schools, so why not use them? And also it’s our pride that we have them to make our systems and they are already proven to be as good ones. And with that also, we can also save in terms of financial aspect. So keep it up!

Interviewing the companies

For me, I have 2 adopted companies for MIS because I have also a two groups. One is for the module and assignments which is the Lane System Inc. and the other one is for the major paper which is the SAMULCO.

July 14 – My group mates, Dolor Mancera, Karl Abregana and I, had our first interview with the MIS supervisor of SAMULCO on that day. As we have introduced with each other first, we have found out that the supervisor knew our instructor because as what he said, he was also been his student before in UIC and actually until now they still have a communication with each other. Anyways, the interview is for our Assessment on their Information System. And with that interview, we have gained informations about their company and their MIS but I think these informations are not enough so therefore maybe on some other times we should visit there again.

July 6 – We proposed again 3 companies to our instructor but this time is for our major paper already. We proposed the Damosa Land Inc., Sta. Ana Multipurpose Cooperative (SAMULCO) and Six Eleven Global Services but only SAMULCO was approved. Likewise, our approval letter was also completely signed within that day.

July 8 – We gave our approval letter to SAMULCO.

July 11 – I called SAMULCO for the follow-up of our letter and they answered that they have already approved it and we will just meet their MIS Personnel on July 14.
