Movie Reflections

Surrogates

The movie was amazing and the concept was good. I liked how the Surrogates are user controlled, and there's no real threat of robotic uprising, although that should be the number one fear in this world but I don’t like it if it would really applied or used in reality because it would come to the point that people let robots do their living for them and everybody becomes useless as human. It should only help paraplegics feel the sensation of walking again. As a Surrogate, it allows you to be anybody that we will not know who the user of the Surrogate is. There's one moment in Surrogates that's so utterly fantastic and so face-meltingly awesome that it represents everything we hold to be true as human beings. But somehow, this movie let people realized that robots are not still certainly as good and better as human in all things in life especially on having a genuine human interaction and affection between every individual  than just between with the robots or what you call it surrogates.

Wall-E

The movie was so entertaining, so sweet, so cute and so beautiful. The animation is stunning. The sound design is good and the little dialogue there is witty. WALL-E is such a joyous film you can't help but be totally caught up in the world of a lonely robot looking for love. It's a touching sci-fi love story. You can take from it the lesson of protecting our environment. And it's definitely a cautionary tale about our reliance on technology to do everyday tasks for us. Pixar's put together yet another movie to be enjoyed by all ages and one sure to go down in history as one of the best animated movies ever created. I know those are strong words, but I believe they are completely justified.

I,Robot

The movie was very well directed. Just by watching it makes me fantasize a lot. Wondering how good my life would be if I had robots like those. On the other hand, when u think about it, it does have disadvantages. Such as, people not having jobs because robots are taking over what people can do. Another, it makes me think as an IT student on how they could program a robot so complex that it almost seems like its human. But then again, people say: "Yesterday's science fiction is tomorrow's reality." so it’s probably possible.

According to this movie, the 3 laws of iRobots are:

  •          Law I – A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  •          Law II – A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law.
  •          Law III – A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law.

Pirates of Silicon Valley

This is a movie about the geek business, or at least the personality of the geek business. This is definitely an interesting movie especially for the business and IT industry. It’s about the rise and fall of Apple which was on the top before and the Microsoft was the underdog, but that was just for a while. And the punch that the Microsoft swore was pulled trying to beat the big guys (IBM and Apple). The film dutifully details the skyrocketing of Apple from a manufacturer of the first cookie cutter color PCs to one of the biggest personal computer companies to the giant taken down by the people that helped build it up. The movie also showcases the big sneaky moves of the business. It shows how Apple grabbed the idea of the GUI from Xerox, how Microsoft got the first DOS from someone else, and how Microsoft started making its own interfaces. Pirates of Silicon Valley also paint an anecdotal picture of the insanity of Jobs and Gates -- Jobs incites cross product team food fights, Gates drives a bulldozer on the grounds of the Redmond campus. These two are the most inspiring persons and the great model as a businessman today.

The Key points expressed from this movie are the following:
  • Information is power
  • Good artist copy, Great artist steal
  • Real artists ship

Eagle Eye

Among the 5 movies that I have watched, this is the one that I could say it’s the best among them. This was so awesome, so thrilling and so high tech. It’s about the terrorism with its high technology ways. They are the terrorists who target to kill the US President and his cabinet.  With the used of what they so-called ARIIA (Autonomous Reconnaissance Intelligence Integration Analyst), the top secret supercomputer that is tasked with gathering intelligence from  all over the world, they can help the coerced agents, Jerry and Rachel to avoid the Chicago Police and FBI Units just to carrying out the  plan of the possible terrorist organization. Every action of the coerced agents are monitored and accessed by the ARIIA in which it demonstrated the ability to remotely control virtually wherever they are with the use of any networked device, such as traffic lights, cell phones, automated cranes, and even electrical wires. On this movie, the action was non-stop and the intelligence was unbelievable and so impeccably awesome. It’s absolutely two thumbs up for me then. And I so love it!
The good message that was expressed on the last part of the movie was that, "Sometimes the very measures we put into place to safeguard our liberty become threats to liberty itself".

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won, had he stuck it out
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup
And he learned too late when the night came down
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.
